Happy Easter

Easter Traditions in the UK
Christians celebrate Easter to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the UK Easter is one of the major Christian festivals of the year. It is full of customs, folklore and traditional food. However, many cherished Easter traditions have been around for centuries, but you will not find them in the Bible.

Hot Cross Buns. Hot cross buns are spiced raisin buns traditionally eaten toasted with butter on Good Friday.
Easter Bunny.
Children believe that if they are good, the Easter Bunny will deliver eggs and other treats such as chocolate eggs or rabbits, and marshmallow chicks  in an Easter basket, which children find waiting for them when they wake up.
Easter Eggs. Nowadays people give each other Easter eggs made of chocolate, usually hollow and filled with sweets.

Morris dancing. Morris dancing is a traditional English form of folk dance. Men dress up in costumes with hats and ribbons and bells around their ankles. They dance through the streets and one man often carries an inflated pigs bladder on the end of a stick. He will run up to young women in the street and hit them over the head with the pigs bladder, this is supposed to be lucky (men)!

Easter parades. People show off their spring finery, including lovely bonnets decorated for spring. Children build and decorate colourful paper bonnets at school before Easter, then join a local parade through their town or village on Easter Monday to show them off. New clothes at Easter are traditionally considered to be good luck.

Egg rolling. In some areas "egg rolling" is still popular today. People take the eggs to the top of a hill and roll them down. The first egg to get to the foot of that hill is the winner.
